Carla Maria Rodrigues
 
Carla Maria’s professional life as a violist began in a long tenure with the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra where she was subsequently appointed Assistant Principal Viola.
In 1994, while serving as their Acting Principal, she was a featured soloist in Strauss’ Don Quixote with Yo Yo Ma under the direction of David Zinman. During the 1998 and 1999 season, Ms Rodrigues was invited to join the Australian Chamber Orchestra as their Guest Principal Viola where she performed throughout Europe and Australia.
She continues her collaboration with the Australian Chamber Orchestra to this day, touring both nationally and internationally.

Chamber music activities have taken Carla-Maria throughout Israel, Europe, North and South America with such artists as Pinchas Zukerman, Sir Yehudi Menuhin and Rudolph Serkin. She has also toured extensively with Pinchas Zukerman as a member of the Zukerman and Friends’ Ensemble. A Founding member of the Rosalyra Quartet, Ms. Rodrigues continues to express her passion for chamber music by devoting much of her professional career to this genre. In 1995, Carla-Maria was invited to perform in a series of Chamber music concerts at the Wigmore Hall in London with Steven Isserlis and Joshua Bell. She has been an active participant at numerous festivals including Marlboro, Gstaad, Verbier, Santa Fe and Aldeburgh Festivals touring nationally and internationally with “Musicians from Marlboro.”
In the summer of 2000, as a guest of the Jerusalem Music Centre, Ms. Rodrigues coached chamber music and gave masterclasses to aspiring young musicians from all over Israel.

Future engagements this year include appearances at the VCU Chamberfest in Richmond VA, a return to Australia to play as the Guest Principal Viola in the Australian Chamber Orchestra, the Chamber Music Pallisades Series in LA, the Salt Bay Festival in Portland, Maine, the Deia Chamber Music Festival in Mallorca where she is a founding member and the Adriatic Chamber Music festival in Bonefro Italy.

Presently, Ms. Rodrigues resides in California where she is Principal Viola of the San Francisco Opera Company for 6 months of the year.
