Ertan Torgul A native of Turkey, Ertan Torgul started his violin studies at the age of twelve at the State Conservatory in Ankara. He moved to the United States in 1987 to continue his studies with Franco Gulli. In 1993, while a member of the New World Symphony, he was one of the founding members of the Plymouth String Quartet. In its first season the quartet received first prize in the Prix Mercure in Vienna, second place in the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, and was a finalist in the Paolo Borciani String Quartet Competition. The Florida-based quartet performed throughout Europe, South America, and in such prestigious cities as Paris, Vienna, Monte Carlo, Madrid, and Buenos Aires. Mr. Torgul is currently Associate Concertmaster of the San Antonio Symphony and lives in Fort Worth with his wife Kim, who is a violinist with the Fort Worth Symphony, and two cats, Flapjack and Picasso.
