| Rene Mandel René Mandel was born in Los Angeles where he studied with Manuel Compinsky. At the age of 14, René performed as soloist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, conducted by Calvin Simmons. At Indiana University, he studied with Josef Gingold and subsequently with Stuart Canin at UC Santa Barbara where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Music.At the age of 20, René became a member of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Gerard Schwartz. He later became Principal 2nd violin for LACO under the direction of Iona Brown. He was also appointed Principal 2nd violin for the New Century Chamber Orchestra of San Francisco, Stuart Canin music director. In addition to the Los Angeles Philharmonic, René has soloed with the LA Chamber Orchestra, the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra,The New Century Chamber Orch., and most recently with the Knoxville Symphony playing the Stravinsky Violin Concerto. As an orchestral violinist, René has performed and toured with the San Francisco Symphony and the LA Philharmonic. An active chamber musician, René has performed extensively throughout the United States and Europe. René lives in Marin County with his wife Joanna and their twin boys, Lucas and Jacob.
