| Alexander Vaulin Alexander Vaulin has gained a reputation as a remarkable musician and piano virtuoso through his performances and recordings of rarely and never-performed masterworks, particularly of Russian, Scandinavian and French piano music. In fact, he is the only pianist in Scandinavia who regularly performs sonatas by P. Dukas, N.W. Gade, W. Stenhammar, M. Balakirev, A. Glazunov, S. Slonimsky, B. Tishchenko, the Fantasia by L. Glass, and pieces by I. Bergh, A. Borodin, S. Palmgren, T. Rangström, and V. Silvestrov. Denmark’s National Radio’s review wrote: “If it were possible to award the Order of Elephant to someone who shakes the dust off the hidden music worth listening to from 1900’s, Alexander Vaulin should immediately get the Order... [He] performs the greatest deed for Louis Glass’ shamelessly neglected Fantasia from 1904”. Alexander Vaulin, born in Moscow, began playing piano at the age of six and graduated from the Gnessins Music School for talented children twelve years later with a gold medal. He continued his education at the world-famous Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, where he studied with Prof. Nina Lelchuk, a disciple of Yakov Flier, the brilliant Soviet pianist. Mr. Vaulin earned his doctorate there with highest honors. Since then he kept a very busy schedule performing solo recitals and chamber music throughout Russia, Ukraine, Byelorussia and the Baltic countries. His performances were always highly praised by the critics and warmly received by the audiences. He also worked as a piano teacher and vocal coach and as an editor of piano repertoire at the world’s largest music publishing house, “Muzyka” in Moscow. In 1987 Mr. Vaulin moved to the West – first to Austria. There he continued giving concerts as a soloist and with singers. He established a creative contact with Prof. Paul Badura-Skoda, taking part in his master classes and studying with him privately. Since 1989 he has been living in Copenhagen, Denmark, from where he continues his performing career as a soloist and recording artist. Leading Danish musicians often invite him to perform together. Mr. Vaulin has also given concerts in Austria, the Faeroe Islands, Finland, France, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, Norway, Sweden and South Africa. A reviewer from Iceland’s newspaper “Morgunblaðið” wrote: “The influence of Richter was clear, in any case; I have attended a large number of concerts at the Nordic House and have never heard the instrument there sound so good. Each tone was soft as silk, wide and colorful…” Mr. Vaulin has recorded 10 highly acclaimed solo CDs with EMI and Classico. Denmark’s National Radio and other Danish and international broadcasting companies regularly air Mr. Vaulin’s recitals and recordings. Alexander Vaulin has also earned a prominent name as an excellent and devoted piano teacher and vocal coach. He has been working at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen, opera schools in Gladsaxe and Rødovre, Gentofte Courses, Herlev and Gladsaxe music schools and has given master classes in Denmark, Finland, Italy, Luxembourg, Czechia and South Africa. He takes also active part in realization of international events for young musicians in Czechia and Russia. Alexander Vaulin works as external editor of piano music for the publishers “Samfundet” and “Sheet Music Now A/S”. His editorial works are displayed at www.FreeHandMusic.com. Currently, Mr. Vaulin is presenting a series of concerts commemorating the 100th anniversary of Edvard Grieg’s death. He is also working on three new recordings which include music of Scandinavia, pieces by Brahms, and works by Balakirev and Borodin. O1C Performances: Piano Rarities |
