Barbara Deutsch Trained in classical clarinet at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, Barbara Deutsch switched gears and received her BA in ethnomusicology from UCLA. She has since specialized in performing Hungarian, Greek, Balkan, and Middle Eastern music, and has toured the US and Europe. As the clarinetist for Kárpátok, a Hungarian folk dance troupe, she took up soprano sax as a modern substitute for tárogató. More recently she has added alto sax and fluier (Romanian folk flute), and has studied with the Romanian clarinet/sax virtuoso Sergiu Balutel. Barbara is Danubius’ manager, as well as Music Director of the Westwind International Folk Ensemble, and clarinetist for the Lowiczanie Polish Folk Ensemble. O1C Performances: Danubius |
