Ted Thiele Ted Thiele began his professional musical career in 1960 while playing in local dance-bands in southern Minnesota. After completing his college education in 1966 he spent three years as a flautist in the US Army. In late 1969 he moved to Los Angeles where he spent nearly twenty-five years working as a free-lance woodwind musician. Highlights in his career include performing in the Don Ellis Big Band and touring with singer Andy Williams. Performing in various jazz ensembles with Los Angeles based musicians Art Pepper, Bob Cooper and Bill Perkins are among his most treasured experiences. During his years in Los Angeles and after his move in late 1993 to San Francisco, he has maintained a business as a woodwind instrument technician specializing in the repair of fine quality flutes.
