The Magic Baroque Box
Harpsichord Music of Bach, Handel and Scarlatti
Trevor Stephenson, harpsichord
Preludes & Fugues in C major and F minor from The Well-Tempered Clavier, Book II, and Capriccio on the Departure of a Beloved Brother by J. S. Bach; Sonatina in B flat major and Minuet in G minor by Handel; selected sonatas by Domenico Scarlatti
1685 was a very good year for music, that being the year in which three titans were born: Bach, Handel and Scarlatti. In celebration of this extraordinary trio, nationally renowned harpsichordist and Baroque lecturer Trevor Stephenson presents a program describing and musically illustrating their impact on the music of their era, along with a discussion and demonstration of the relationship between the harpsichord's timbre and historical tunings and the aesthetics and musical expression of the Baroque sensibility.
Audio Samples:
1-15 Suite In B Minor, BWV 814 - Sarabande.mp3
