Danubius
Music of the Balkans, Central and Eastern Europe, and traditional gypsy melodies

Jutka Mándoki, accordion, cimbalom, kontra, ütögardon; David Nebenzahl, string bass, violin, tambura; Selim Koytak, oud, cobza, dumbek; Barbara Deutsch, clarinet, saxophone, fluier; David Skuse, violin, string bass, gadulka, dumbek

The members of Danubius have lived in and studied the music of the Balkans, and employ that background, and such instruments as the Bulgarian folk mandolin and Turkish lute, to present the deeply soulful melodies and dances of Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and Macedonia in their traditional ethnic forms, but enlivened by the performing artists' interpretative vitality. The result is an emotive tapestry of sounds that preserves the distinct character of each musical style.
