Basically British X: Across the English Channel

The Holy Sonnets of John Donne by Britten; Let Us Garlands Bring by Finzi; Schéhérazade and Don Quichotte à Dulcinée by Ravel; selected songs by Ralph Vaughan Williams
Chronicle critic Joshua Kosman lyricized over Tony Award winning baritone Eugen Brancoveanu’s “phenomenally resonant voice” in the same review in which he characterized soprano Elza van den Heever simply as “brilliant.” Tonight they are joined by Minneapolis opera’s gift to San Francisco, tenor Matthew O’Neill, and Bay Area piano accompanist nonpareil John Parr, in “Across the English Channel,” the 10th in our Basically British series, performing songs by Britains three definitive 20th century composers, and Vaughan Williams teacher, Ravel.

Old First Concerts has volunteer opportunities available!

Our concerts rely on the generosity of volunteers to assist with simple tasks like:

set-up and clean-up

Scheduling is flexible — you choose when to work! We especially need helping hands for our Friday and Saturday night performances.
