All About Igor – Old First Concerts

Suite Italienne; Three Songs from Shakespeare; Firebird Suite and L’histoire du Soldat by Igor Stravinsky; Petroushskates by Joan Tower; Viola Sonata by James Cohn; Threnody in Memoriam Stravinsky by Aaron CoplandNow in their third season, the Laurel Ensemble has quickly established itself as one of the most exciting chamber groups in the Bay Area. Praised for their sophisticated interpretation and polished performances, they deliver innovative chamber music repertoire to their audiences. In this special program they present four of Stravinskys chamber pieces, showing a broad spectrum of the composers varied style of writing. As homage to Stravinsky, the program will also feature other chamber pieces by three American composers Aaron Copland, James Cohn, and Joan Tower that echo Stravinskys compositional style.
