In this recital of preludes and transcriptions, pianist Anyssa Neumann explores a variety of contrapuntal traditions from the Baroque to the 21st century, from the clean lines of Bach’s Six Little Preludes to the chromatic harmonies of Wagner and the playful, dodecaphonic puzzles of Dallapiccola, written in a “musical notebook” dedicated to his daughter. Also included is Hoyt-Schermerhorn by American composer Christopher Cerrone (a solemn chorale-like work written for piano and live electronics), alongside Arvo Pärt’s mysterious, meditative Trivium, originally for organ but performed here as a transcription for piano.
