Bow & Mallet Quintet
Songs of the Heart

Jennifer Kloetzel, cello; Jack Van Geem, vibraphone; Brian Cooke, piano; Rob Wright, bass; Brian Simpson, drums

Bow & Mallet Quintet is a cross-over ensemble that brings ballads from the American Songbook and upbeat jazz tunes together for a program that will appeal to both classical music and jazz aficionados. Their program Songs of the Heart, which is a romantic interlude from the Great American Songbook (and more), grew out of a vision by the friend of the ensemble of the cello as a featured instrument in a series of love songs. The Bow & Mallet Quintet features the talents of cellist Jennifer Kloetzel (former cellist of the Cypress String Quartet; and Prof. of Cello, UC Santa Barbara) and vibraphonist Jack Van Geem (former Principal Percussionist, San Francisco Symphony; and faculty San Francisco Conservatory of Music) with a talented trio of jazz artists that includes pianist Brian Cooke, double bassist Robert Wright, and drummer Brian Simpson. This concert represents the first public performance by the Bow & Mallet Quintet.
