Dr. Fulkerson will present computer realizations of several of his works and Thalia Moore will play two of his compositions for solo ‘cello. The program will include pieces from the cycle of Ceremonials; the first of these is dedicated to Elliott Carter on his Ninetieth Birthday. The Ship of Souls cycle of pieces after Dante’s Purgatorio will also be presented; the first of these is dedicated to the arts patron Ruth Jacobs, who recently passed away. Miss Moore will also play the world premiere of Dr. Fulkerson’s Suite for solo ‘cello. The program will conclude with the new orchestral work MOYS ICOS.All of these works are from the extensive “cycle of epicycles” that is the untitled “work in progress” music festival that Dr. Fulkerson has been composing since the 1980s; one of these compositions, THE CHILDERMASS, received its world premiere at Old First Concerts. This program is the first sustained attempt to present these works together in a manner suggesting their function as sources for the interactive possibilities in the projected festival, which encompasses a variety of events spanning a period of a week or more. Over thirty works in the “cycle of epicycles” have been completed, including the full-evening theater piece A MIRACLE OF RARE DEVICE.
