Lynn Schugren, fervent promoter of new music, will present Treasures from the Mother Lode, a recital of solo piano music by composers from the Sierra Nevada. Works included will be Terry Riley’s Heaven Ladder book 7, and the World Premieres of Mark Vance’s Nocturne, Dennis Lauderdale’s Elements, and Durwynne Hseieh’s Piano Sonata, also commissioned by Ms. Schugren. From classic Riley to brand new Hsieh, the pieces will present a spectrum of styles from these four California composers. Hsieh, Lauderdale and Vance will be present to hear their piano works performed. Terry Riley is now living in Japan, but Ms. Schugren will be playing from the score he personally autographed to her.
