QL Latin American Chamber Music Festival – October 19, 2013

The Quinteto Latino/QL Latin American Chamber Music Festival/Festival de Música de Cámara Latinoamericana will make its debut from October 15-19, 2013 with music representing Mexico, Puerto Rico, Brazil, Venezuela, and other countries. The Festival, held at various venues in San Jose and San Francisco, will include six concerts featuring popular wind ensemble Quinteto Latino in performance with professional musicians from throughout the Bay Area, the US and Latin America, educational workshops and talks, as well as performances inspiring young artists and students. The vision for this first-ever Festival of its kind in the US comes from what event producer, Armando Castellano, Quinteto Latino musician/founder and music educator, sees as a pressing need to diversify the traditional chamber music landscape rooted almost exclusively in a Western European repertoire. “We want the QL Festival to be a catalyst for change that brings Latino chamber music center stage and shows the richness of the many contributions from Latino culture to the genre,” said Castellano.By creating a new “performance paradigm,” the Festival also wants to make chamber music, often seen as the purview of a select audience, accessible to new audiences of all ages, ethnicities, and backgrounds. “Our events will differ in structure from a typical classical recital: they will be approachable and conversational, combining the focused listening of a formal concert with the atmosphere of a community event,” said Castellano. Ethnomusicologist Dr. Ana R. Alonso-Minutti (Assistant Professor, University of New Mexico) will facilitate discussion amongst performers, composers, and audience members, allowing all present to explore together the various facets of just what “Latin American Chamber Music” can mean. The QL Latin American Chamber Music Festival is made possible in part through the Musical Grant Program, which is administered by the San Francisco Friends of Chamber Music, and supported by the Heller Foundation, the Hewlett Foundation, the San Francisco Foundation and San Francisco Grants for the Arts; sffcm.org.This performance will feature musicians from Enriching Lives Through Music performing with the Community MusicWorks Alumni String Quartet.QL Latin American Chamber Music Festival Schedule12:30 PM –ÂEvent 1: Inspiring Young Latinos Concert2 PM –ÂEvent 2: Concert I with Quinteto Latino6 PM –ÂEvent 3: VIP Reception8 PM –ÂEvent 4: Concert II with Quinteto Latino and Musical Art QuintetSpecial ticket prices:Attend any 1 event for $12Attend any 2 events for $20Attend any 3 events for $28Attend any 4 events for $35Special rate for students: $5 for any single eventTo purchase tickets for the 2 PM concert only, please click here.To purchase tickets for the 6 PM VIP reception only, please click here.To purchase tickets for the 8 PM concert only, please click here.To purchase tickets for multiple events with the above discounts, please select your desired number of events here.Tickets may also be purchased by calling (415) 474 1608.
