Lawrence Ferrara

Lawrence Ferrara was the first guitarist to receive a M.M. from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. He made his New York debut at Carnegie Recital Hall to critical acclaim shortly after his Conservatory graduation. He has performed concertos with the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra and the Bay Chamber Symphony, the Berkeley Symphony, the Classical Philharmonic, as well as given solo recitals in Los Angeles, San Diego, Toronto, Barcelona and Sydney. Mr. Ferrara studied with George Sakellariou and early in his career was personally chosen by Julian Bream for his 1981 master classes. He won prizes at the Carmel Classic Guitar Competition, served on the National Endowment for the Arts Music Advisory Panel and authored a series of books/CDs entitled The Student Repertoire Series (for Guitar) Vol. 1 & 2, published by GSP, of San Francisco. Mr. Ferrara's solo CD, American Guitar Music, is found on the VGO label. He currently teaches full time at City College of San Francisco and is on the guitar faculty of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Recently Mr. Ferrara won a California Virtual Campus (CVC) Award in 2004 for the “Best Online Teaching Website,” for an online course he developed in Music Appreciation.
