One of Canada’s premiere chamber ensembles returns to Old First Concerts with a program featuring Randolph Peters’s Frisson, commissioned by the duo, alongside works by Bach, Schumann, and Beethoven.

Friction Quartet are joined by pianist Sarah Cahill for the World Premiere of Max Stoffregen’s The Gila: Mesa, River, and Mountain, plus Geoffrey Gordon’s ABACISCUS and the World Premiere of Family Group with Aliens by Piers Hellawell.

With an emphasis on exciting and unexpected grooves, adventurous improvisations and rich soundscapes, StringQuake is impossible to genre-fy, with stylistic influences including traditional classical chamber music, jazz, Latin, classical Indian, West African folk and Balkan music.
