Minsky Duo Raises the Barn with an all-American program including a Bay Area premiere by Ned Rorem and a World Premiere by Aaron Andrew Hunt, plus works by Aaron Copland, Charles Ives, and John Adams.
Alisa Rose and Amy Zanrosso are joined by special guest pianist Ian Scarfe in a program of nocturnes by Copland, Cage, Medtner, Chopin, Ravel, Crumb, Ogerman, Rose, Szymanowski, and Schnittke.
Pianist José López returns to Old First Concerts with a performance of rarely heard works by 19th century Cuban-born composers José Comellas and Nicolás Ruíz Espadero, along with Charles V. Alkan’s Symphony. We will also be raising funds to help Melisa Nieves, a fourth-year student at the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music who lost her piano in the devastation of Hurricane Maria.
Playing in an unbound, energetic village style this band of world renown klezmer veterans carries on the ancient tradition of klezmer musicians, playing music of all kinds, but with a recognizably Jewish sound.
