This concert is Mr. Day’s way of honoring the very high level of quality of the musicians who entered the first competition, most of them completing their Masters of Music. As a result of hearing the fine quality of the finalists who competed for the top prizes of Gold and Silver, Mr. Day has added a third prize of Bronze for the next competition in 2012. All three pianists were coached by William Corbett-Jones for the competition, with coaching for the clarinet, by Tony Striplen and coaching for the flute by Linda Lukas. The success of the competition was truly a group effort, and will be a bi-annual event open to seniors and graduate music students at SFSU.
