Emerging Young Piano Chamber Talent

Bernstein Duo for clarinet and pianoBrahms Sonata for clarinet and pianoPoulenc Sonata for clarinet and pianoProkofiev Sonata in D major for flute and piano, Op. 94Schubert Introduction and Variations on Trokne Blumen for flute and pianoSchubert Fantasy in F minor for four handsA diverse group of talented young musicians, all finalists and winners in the inaugural Wesley Farrand Day Piano Chamber Competition at San Francisco State University, perform a program of works for clarinet, flute and piano. This concert is Mr. Day’s way of honoring the very high level of quality of the musicians who entered the first competition, most of them completing their Masters of Music. As a result of hearing the fine quality of the finalists who competed for the top prizes of Gold and Silver, Mr. Day has added a third prize of Bronze for the next competition in 2012. All three pianists were coached by William Corbett-Jones for the competition, with coaching for the clarinet, by Tony Striplen and coaching for the flute by Linda Lukas. The success of the competition was truly a group effort, and will be a bi-annual event open to seniors and graduate music students at SFSU.
