Inara Morgenstern and Victoria Neve, both of whom are on the Music Faculty at San Francisco State University, have performed as a piano duo for over thirty years. They have performed the mainstays of the two-piano repertoire—everything from major works of the 19th Century to George Crumb’s Makrokosmos, Books III and IV (for two pianos and percussion and piano four-hands, respectively).

Over the years they have found special delight in assembling theme concerts, including annual Hallowe’en extravaganzas every October at San Francisco State. Their concert this afternoon will feature Crumb’s Eine Kleine Mitternachtmusik (performed by Victoria Neve, solo) and a seasonal mix of scary pieces for four hands by Gounod, Reineke, Dukas, Schumann, Alfredo Casella, and Toby Twining—with a little extra eeriness from a toy piano! Morgenstern and Neve will be joined by Ariela Morgenstern for some wonderfully spooky vocal selections as well.

Ariela Morgenstern is thrilled to be returning to Old First Concerts with her wildly talented mother. She has recently moved back to her hometown of San Francisco after working in New York for nearly ten years, and made her A.C.T. debut this past summer in the World Premiere of the new musical A Walk On The Moon, as well her Feinstein’s at the Nikko debut in her sold-out solo show last fall.

Old First Concerts has volunteer opportunities available!

Our concerts rely on the generosity of volunteers to assist with simple tasks like:

ushering

distributing programs

box office

set-up and clean-up

Scheduling is flexible — you choose when to work! We especially need helping hands for our Friday and Saturday night performances.

An excellent opportunity for students, seniors, or anyone who possesses a love for music!

If you’d like to consider volunteering with Old First Concerts, please contact curtishuth@oldfirstconcerts.org for more information.
