Ives Collective – All-Beethoven

Jay Zhong & Tammie Dyer, violins; Susan Freier & Jessica Chang, violas; Stephen Harrison, cello; Elizabeth Schumann, piano

Ludwig van Beethoven String Quintet in C major, Op. 29
Ludwig van Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 4 in G major, Op. 58 (arr. for chamber ensemble)

2020 is Beethoven’s year, his 250th anniversary. Needless to say, the Ives Collective performance will not be the first or last concerts to celebrate his genius, but the works they are performing in his honor may not be pieces with which you are familiar. The gentle intimacy of the Op. 29 Viola Quintet will upend your expectations, and the chamber version of the masterful Fourth Piano Concerto, one of his most intimate concerti, works marvelously.

The Ives Collective presents powerful live music experiences through fresh and informed interpretations of established masterworks and underappreciated gems. With core members and Artistic Co-Directors Susan Freier and Stephen Harrison, the Collective wants to share their joy in bringing together old friends and new in a variety of combinations to perform the widest possible spectrum of chamber music.
