Jeff Sanford’s Cartoon Jazz Band

Dick Mathias, Scott Petersen, Harvey Robb, Jeff Sanford, horns; John Capobianco, John Hunt, Rolf Johnson, Rick Walsh, Eric Wayne, brass; Randy Johnson, banjo, guitar, vocals, doombeck, xylophone; Marianne Addington, piano; Don Bennett, bass; Mark Rosengarden, drumsIf you grew up watching Looney Tunes cartoons, you were, noted the Chronicle’s Jesse Hamlin, “weaned on the fun-house music of Rodney Scott”, the composer whose scores accompanied Bugs, Daffy, Porky et al. In 2003, veteran clarinet, sax and flute musician Jeff Sanford formed the Cartoon Jazz Band to revive and perform such energetic and colorful Scott classics as Dinner Music for a Pack of Hungry Cannibals and War Dance for Wooden Indians. This matinee program features five Scott compositions plus music from The Incredibles, The Simpsons, and Betty Boop cartoons.
