Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter by Kui Dong; Impromptu by Duo HuangFacing army tanks in Tiananmen Square in 1989 in defiance of the People’s Republic of China, student composer Kui Dong never dreamed she would, 15 years later, be a PhD in music composition and professor at Dartmouth. Tonight she and her composer husband Duo Huang will be featured, as two award-winning ensembles join forces to present world premieres of the couples latest works, fusing traditional Chinese and Western classical styles: her musical showcase of various Chinese instruments presented in concerto, and his semi-improvisational homage to Song Dynasty poems.
