Joel Fan – October 19, 2014

Known as an “impressive pianist” with a “probing intellect and vivid imagination” (The New York Times), Joel Fan has “made a career on a willingness to juxtapose traditional and unexpected repertory” (Washington Post). Minnesota Public Radio states that Mr. Fan “takes you inside the music offering a deeper, more rewarding experience.” In this performance, Joel Fan reimagines the music of Richard Wagner—rarely heard on the solo piano—with his own version of Gould’s transcription of the overture to Die Meistersinger. He contrasts this with compositions of Chopin, Brahms and Liszt, each of whom realized their understanding of Romanticism in uniquely different ways, including their characterizations of dance forms. Audiences are invited to celebrate these composers, whose inner spirit and personal vision transformed music. For more information please visit joelfanmusic.com.
