The Jupiter Ensemble is joined by friends composer/clarinetist Lawrence London and San Francisco Symphony bassoonist Steven Dibner, as well as pianists Lena Lubotsky and Victor Romasevich. Thus, the above title acquires alternative meaning besides its obvious humorous connotation. The program will consist of musical gems for violin and piano, bassoon and piano by Iosif Andriasov—never before performed in San Francisco; string quartet music by Heitor Villa-Lobos, music for clarinet and string quartet by Alexander Glazunov, Lawrence London and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and piece for solo clarinet by Arshak Andriasov, written for and dedicated to clarinetists Lawrence London, Samuel Marques, Nolan Petote, and Ashley Estrop. London writes of his Dynamo Quintet: “It is an instrumental suite in six short movements for clarinet and string quartet. It was arranged from the song cycle Dynamo, a theater piece based on the life of Thomas Edison. Parts of Dynamo Quintet describe Edison’s inventions: the stock ticker, electric light, kinetoscope; other parts describe his personality.’
