Melody of China – November 7, 2014

Yuanlin Chen Coexistent Beauty World PremiereJoin Melody of China for an evening of merging aesthetics. The Chinese ensemble welcomes guest artists Peter Josheff, Dan Flanagan, Kevin Yu and Deszon Claiborne. The concert will feature the world premiere of a newly commissioned work for Chinese yangqin, guzheng, pipa, sheng and dizi with violin, ‘cello, clarinet, electronics and percussion. New York composer Yuanlin Chen began the first electronic music studio in China and has composed for numerous ensembles including the BBC Scottish Orchestra. Dr. Chen has created music software for several films including Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. He premieres his third Melody of China commission. The program will also include selections from the Chinese classical repertoire. This commission has been made possible by the Chamber Music America Classical Commissioning Program, with generous funding provided by The Andrew W.
