Meng-Chieh Liu, piano

B major, D. 575; A minor, D. 784; A major, D. 959A promising but unheralded student at the Curtis Institute in 1993, Meng-Chieh Liu was asked to substitute at the last minute for the celebrated André Watts in recital at Philadelphia’s Academy of Music. The response, noted the Philadelphia Inquirer, was tumultuous: “Before he was off the stage, the Academy audience was on its feet, awarding him a deserved standing ovation … the young pianist dazzled the audience … an artist of great maturity.” Thus began a stellar career that continues tonight with the third of Mr. Liu’s four concerts devoted to Schubert’s sonatas.

Old First Concerts has volunteer opportunities available!

Our concerts rely on the generosity of volunteers to assist with simple tasks like:

ushering

distributing programs

box office

set-up and clean-up

Scheduling is flexible — you choose when to work! We especially need helping hands for our Friday and Saturday night performances.

An excellent opportunity for students, seniors, or anyone who possesses a love for music!
