Juxtaposing traditional repertoire with newer works, MusicAEterna unearths themes and archetypes from our cultural past that resonate powerfully with the present. The ensemble reminds audiences of the living tradition of classical music by creating musical bridges between cultures and eras. With their innovative programming, MusicAEterna also introduces audiences to the centuries-old art form of classical improvisation, where classical forms merge with our modern life experience. MusicAEterna: Past to Present includes piano trios by Mozart (G major, K. 564), Brahms (No. 1 in B Major), Takemitsu (Between Tides) and a Keyes-MusicAEterna premiere, Snapshots from Japan, inspired by Ukiyo-e artists who were Japanese contemporaries of Mozart and Brahms, and by Keyes experiences of living and traveling in Japan—Keyes is a Japanese-American Eurasian and her maternal family lives in Japan.
