The Shoreline Piano Trio presents Exploration of Love and Art: a Valentine’s concert celebrating the works of women composers. This program features compositions by Caroline Shaw, Jessie Montgomery, Amy Beach, Pulitzer Prize-winner Jennifer Higdon, and the iconic Romantic composer, Clara Schumann.

Violinist Sue-mi Shin is an avid chamber musician, orchestral performer and music educator. She was one of the founding members of Yule Piano Trio and Sonnet Ensemble where she served as the artistic director for many seasons. Currently she plays with the Shoreline Piano Trio in the Bay Area. As an active orchestral performer, she plays with the Opera San Jose orchestra, Symphony San Jose and Monterey Symphony among many others. She has formerly served on the faculty of Oikos University and Notre Dame de Namur University. Recently she joined the board of directors at KAMSA (Korean American Music Supporters Association) to support youth in music education while maintaining a dedicated private teaching studio for young violinists and violists. She holds degrees from Manhattan School of Music and Yale University.

Cellist Katie Youn has appeared in concerts throughout North America, South America, Europe, and Asia, in venues such as Boston’s Symphony Hall and Jordan Hall, Japan’s Suntory and Minatomirai Hall, Vancouver’s Orpheum Hall, and Vatican City’s St. Peter’s Basilica. She is the founding member of San Francisco based Shoreline Piano Trio and regularly appears with Sound Impact, Chamber Music Silicon Valley, San Francisco Chamber Orchestra, and Sonnet Ensemble. Passionate about teaching, Katie is on cello faculty at Santa Clara University and has an active private cello studio in San Jose. Born in Korea and raised in Canada, Katie began cello lessons at the Vancouver Academy of Music at the age of 7. She moved to Boston to earn her Bachelor and Master of Music degrees at the New England Conservatory and at Boston University with Doctoral of Musical Arts.

Pianist Menghua Lin began her studies at four, winning prestigious competitions including the Pittsburgh Concert Society, Steinway Society West Pennsylvania, Chautauqua Music Festival Concerto Competition, and YAMAHA Piano Competition. She holds a DMA in Piano Performance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, MM in Carnegie Mellon University, and Performance Diploma at the Manhattan School of music. Her main teachers include Ian Hobson, Nina Svetlanova, and Hanna Wu Li. Lin’s performances span Asia, Europe, and the US, including notable appearances at festivals such as Suolahti Music Festival and Amalfi Music and Art Festival. As a founding member of Shoreline Piano Trio, her collaborations range from orchestral work at Carnegie Mellon University to chamber music projects worldwide. Lin is currently faculty at San Francisco Conservatory of Music Pre-College Division, Community School of Music and Arts and Vice President at Fortnightly Music Club. Notable recent engagements include solo debuts at Taipei’s National Concert Hall, a recording session at RTHK in Hong Kong and a series of performances and masterclasses at esteemed universities and conservatories across the USA and Portugal.
