Trio for ‘cello, bassoon and piano by J. P. Schiffelholz; Arabesque for bassoon and piano by J. Ibert; Trio Pathétique by M. Glinka; Sonata in E-minor, Op. 38 by Johannes Brahms; Sonata Op. 37 by Robert Kahn; and a selection of Japanese songs arranged for ‘cello and piano‘Cellist Rebecca Rust’s artistic dedication has been to the discovery and performance of lost or overlooked musical gems by little-known composers, and along with husband Friedrich Edelmann, former long-time principal bassoonist with the Munich Philharmonic, and pianist Vera Breheda, she brings to Old First an unusual program featuring the American premieres of a work by Robert Kahn, whose compositions were largely destroyed when he fled Nazi Germany, and of a new arrangement of Glinka’s Trio Pathétique.
