Their program will feature music of the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries, including music by French composer Georges Barboteu, and the beloved Trio for piano, violin, and horn in E-flat major, Op. 40 of Brahms. They will give the San Francisco Premiere of Outbursts, an Homage to Brahms by Martha Stoddard, and the World Premiere of Chaopolis by Turkish composer Tolga Özdemir; both of these pieces were recently commissioned by Sierra Ensemble. Another new work on the program, Chase Scene, was composed by Will Flanagan, a student in the John Adams Young Composers Program at The Crowden Music Center in Berkeley. In the words of poet and author Jan Bevan, “Sierra Ensemble does much more than define chamber music…they breathe life into every note for even the most casual listener.”
