William Wellborn Celebrates 25 Years at Old First Concerts – October 27, 2013

Haydn Sonata No. 48 in C major

Alkan selections from Esquisses, Op. 63

Beethoven Sonata in C-sharp minor, Op. 27, No. 2, Moonlight

Weber Invitation to the Dance

Debussy Images, Book I

Liszt Mephisto Waltz No. 1

A favorite of Bay Area audiences, William Wellborn celebrates the 25th anniversary of his debut at Old First Concerts with a program of the familiar and lesser-known. Along with sonatas by Haydn and Beethoven (the ever-popular “Moonlight” sonata), Wellborn features two versions of the waltz: the rarely-heard solo version of Invitation to the Dance by Weber, and the devilish Mephisto Waltz No. 1 by Liszt. French music is represented by Debussy’s evocative first book of Images (which includes the lovely Reflections in the Water), and a 200th birthday tribute to composer Charles-Valentin Alkan, with some of his delightfully quirky Sketches, Op. 63. In what may be a first for Old First audiences, Wellborn will invite the audience to choose the encores!

Old First Concerts has volunteer opportunities available!

Our concerts rely on the generosity of volunteers to assist with simple tasks like:

ushering

distributing programs

box office

set-up and clean-up

Scheduling is flexible — you choose when to work! We especially need helping hands for our Friday and Saturday night performances.

An excellent opportunity for students, seniors, or anyone who possesses a love for music!
