Praised by Sérgio Assad as a “unique guitar duo… beautiful blending of voice, guitars, and creative repertoire,” One Great City crystallized in 2011, and immediately began building a repertoire unique to them, combining Alexandra’s abilities both as a guitarist and a soprano with their love and dedication to chamber music. One Great City reaches beyond the standard guitar duo repertoire and into the realm of song and poetry. They are an honest fusion of their musical passions and talents, a fusion that imbues their performances with charisma and magnetism. After their San Francisco debut, the San Francisco Examiner acclaimed One Great City as an “innovative new duo… One Great City played each [piece] with the loving attention it deserves.” For this special program, Alexandra is thrilled to be premiering two-time Grammy Award winning composer Christopher Tin’s new work for solo-guitar and voice, titled Ãguas da Montanha (Passou o Verão). One Great City will also be performing their not-to-be-missed arrangements, including the rarely heard, but no less exquisite art songs from Spanish composer Frederico Moreno Tórroba, as well as songs from the unrivaled master of American art song, Ned Rorem. One Great City will close the program with the endearing, and enduring, songs of Cole Porter.
