Benjamin Kreith and Ann Yi, well known to San Francisco audiences for their brilliant performances of contemporary works, team up for a program of lyricism, color and invention. They will present a world premier by Christopher Wendell Jones and the first US performance of Sam Nichols Wrack—in which some things go horribly awry. These Bay Area compositions will be flanked by the sweeping oceanic force and tenderness of Shostakovichs Violin Sonata, written as a 60th birthday gift for David Oistrakh, and the unmatched loveliness of Brahms’ ‘Rain Sonata in G Major, Op. 78.
