Solomon – Old First Concerts

San Francisco Renaissance Voices presents the west coast premiere of William Boyce’s (1711-1778) opera Solomon. This rarely performed piece, which uses the love poetry of the Song of Solomon as its inspiration, was second in popularity when it was composed only to Handel’s Messiah. Although tame by today’s standards, just a generation after it was written it disappeared from the stage because it was considered too ‘risquÃ©’!
