The first half of the concert features songs of Franz Schubert, Robert Schumann, Johannes Brahms on poetry of Goethe, Kerner, and Rückert and includes Brahms luscious Zwei Gesänge, Op. 91, for alto, viola, and piano. The second half of the concert merges the modern and medieval sound worlds of Joan Jeanrenaud, Steve Reich, Guillaume de Machaut, and Hildegard von Bingen.
