Ariela Morgenstern, mezzo soprano, is gaining recognition from audiences in operatic, art song, new music, and cabaret repertoires. The young singer recently was the featured soloist in the Carnegie Hall premiere of Imant Raminsh's Symphony of Psalms for orchestra and treble choir. Morgenstern also recently placed first in the 2002 NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing), San Francisco chapter, Musical Theatre Competition and has won several other vocal competions.

Known for her dramatic portrayals, Morgenstern has sung the title role of Carmen several times, including the Capitola-based Bay Shore Lyric Opera Co. production. She will sing Hansel with the San Francisco Opera Guild this fall; as well as Siebel in the Livermore Valley Opera production of Gounod's Faust. She has also sung featured roles with Pocket Opera and Berkeley Opera. She last year toured the Greek Islands with the Opera Aegean program.

A champion of a wide variety of vocal music, Morgenstern performs regularly with the San Francisco Chamber Singers, a professional ensemble dedicated to the performance of new works. In addition, she recently toured the San Francisco Bay Area and New York with Jewlia Eisenberg's avant-garde a cappella group, Charming Hostess.

Morgenstern is also a founding member of the Red Gate Performance Collective, a new theater company based in Berkeley, Calif. Its premiere production, the Rococo Risqué Cabaret, was a sold-out success, and is slated for encore performances in the Bay Area.
