Enrico Pompili ENRICO POMPILI Born in Bolzano (Italy), Pompili’s international career was launched in 1989 when he won First Prize in the Competition Opera Prima-Philips in Milan and with his debut CD released for Philips Classics. Later he was one of the finalists in the Dublin International Piano Competition and other highlights include winning Second Prize in the Hamamatsu International Piano Competition, followed in 1995 by his triumph in the XII Santander International Piano Competition in Spain (with Alicia de Larrocha as President of the jury) winning the “Prize of Honour” and the Special Prize for Contemporary Music. Mr. Pompili began his piano studies with Andrea Bambace at the Conservatory of Bolzano, graduating with cum laude and first class honours. He continued his studies with Franco Scala, Alexander Lonquich, Lazar Berman and Boris Petrushansky at the Accademia Pianistica “Incontri col Maestro” of Imola where he received a special “Master Diploma” for his excellent artistic quality. In September 2000, Mr Pompili attended the prestigious International Piano Foundation “Theo Lieven” in Cadenabbia /Lake Como where he took part in private masterclasses with such eminent artists as William Grant Naboré, Andreas Staier, Leon Fleisher, Fou Ts’ong, Dmitri Bashkirov, Caroline Gautier, Alicia de Larrocha, and Claude Frank, among others. Mr. Pompili performs regularly and has made many recitals and tournées throughout Europe (Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, England, Ireland, Slovenia) as well as in the USA, Japan, Argentine, Venezuela, Colombia, Uruguay, Ecuador, Chile, Panama and The Dominican Republic. Enrico Pompili has performed as soloist with different orchestras such as the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of London, L’Orpheus Chamber Orchestra of New York, the Philharmonic of Warsaw, the National Orchestra of Spain, the “Haydn” of Bolzano and Trent, the orchestra of Padua and Veneto, the Sicilian Symphony Orchestra, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Turin, and the Tuscany Regional Orchestra. Mr. Pompili has appeared at major festivals in Italy including La Sagra Malatestiana of Rimini, Le Settimane Musicali of Merano, Settimane Musicali of Stresa, Settembre Musica of Turin, and Festival Milan-London-New York of Serate Musicali. For many years he has performed regularly at the Serate Musicali in Milan and has produced the cycle “Suoni e profumi del Mediterraneo” dedicated to Spanish and French music. He has collaborated with the pianists Andrea Bacchetti and Roberto Prosseda together with the Orchestra of Padua and Veneto preparing the complete piano works of Bach. Enrico Pompili has recently recorded The Complete Piano Works of Alberto Ginastera for Phoenix Classics and a CD including works of the Italian composer Alberto Bonera. He is currently preparing the complete piano works of Niccolò Castiglioni and a selection of piano works of the American composer Michael Glenn Williams for Stradivarius label.
