Jennifer Beattie
 
Hailed by Opera News Online for her "exuberant voice and personality," mezzo-soprano Jennifer Beattie is a versatile and dynamic performer in styles ranging from opera to chamber music and musical theater to cabaret. Ms. Beattie is a sought-after recitalist dedicated to the performance of art song, appearing in concert in NYC at such venues as The National Arts Club, The Juilliard School, Lincoln Center and Riverside Church. Nationally and internationally she has been a featured performer at The Texas Music Festival, on Houston’s National Public Radio, at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, at The National Association of Teachers of Singing conferences in VA and SC, and in concert with John Musto and Paul Sperry at the SongFest music festival in Malibu, CA.

Ms. Beattie is also an avid performer of new and innovative works and has premiered many pieces written specifically for her voice. In the summer of 2009 she premiered Tom Cipullo’s Insomnia at the SongFest music festival. In both 2007 & 2009 Ms. Beattie was an artist-in-residence at the Yale School of Music with the Yale College composers. This culminated in premieres of student and faculty compositions with pianist Adam Marks, including a new cycle by Rome prize-winning composer Kathryn Alexander.

In opera, she has created the roles of the Mermaid in Mermaid in a Jar (2nd Avenue Songbook, NYC) and Mrs. Pinch in The Araboolies of Libery Street (Manhattan School of Music). She has also been featured in a new fully-staged production of Grieg’s Peer Gynt with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra. Ms. Beattie’s other opera credits include Mimi in La Bohème with Eastern Festival Opera (NYC), Sacerdotessa in Aida with One World Symphony (NYC), and soloist in Die Fledermaus with National Chorale in Carnegie Hall.

Ms. Beattie’s awards include a fellowship with The New Triad for Collaborative Arts (NYC) & The Marc and Eva Stern Fellowship for SongFest 2009; in 2008 she was a prizewinner in the David Adams Art Song Competition (NYC). She has also been featured in the Joy in Singing masterclasses at Lincoln Center, has been awarded a grant from the Pittburgh Concert Society, and has been featured in Classical Singer magazine. Ms. Beattie holds a Master of Music degree from the Manhattan School of Music, and is currently a student of Elizabeth Daniels. Upcoming engagements this season include the mezzo-soprano solo in Durufle’s Requiem with Christ Church Philadelphia and concerts with the Vocal Arts Society in Washington DC.
